Walk the Walk, #UnFiltered (May 2015):
As time seems to pass I am starting to see these blogs are going to be more and more on a sporadic basis, targeting moments that seem to hold true significance on this journey (ie. fun, exciting, or heartfelt moments). I hope with each one they bring a source of encouragement to help you continue on your journey.
As most of you already know I have recently been in the process of creating my first EP #UnFiltered album, well actually trying to raise money & write songs for it to be exact (the fun of recording won’t happen until I come up with all my funds)!! ☺. Making the decision to create the album was the easy part, but anything worthwhile never comes without a price. Staying focused, diligent, and creative has been a fun yet interesting part. It also never ceases to amaze me that along with all that, any ministering tool also comes with a price. Each and every song being created right now in some form or another is requiring me to walk/live through each emotion. Which to be honest is one of the hardest, painful, humbling, yet EXCITING things!! It tells me God’s got something great in-store, and that the best is yet to come (thanks for this line today L., fits perfectly) ☺.
To give you an idea, the heartbeat of the album is being real (aka) vulnerable. Fun... Right?!?!? Haha… In all seriousness, Vulnerability is often seen as a sign of weakness, when in reality it is actually the very opposite. It takes strength & courage to be open, allowing yourself the risk of pain & or rejection. But only TRUE Freedom comes when we let ourselves be real. (John 8:32) My prayers are #UnFiltered will be exactly that, being open & real, yet still FUN, UPLIFTING, FREEING and ENCOURAGING.
Because honestly each and every one of us is facing something; so hopefully it will minister to you!! The way I look at it is Life is a journey of both good & bad, and whether we realize it or not it’s up to us to choose how we will let those things affect us. The keyword is “Choose”.
If I want #UnFiltered to be effective I’m going to have to be Real & Open. And I say the following not in boasting or complaining, but as an example & choices, I’ve made. My challenge through this album process to myself has been to try & look past my stuff, still dealing, but instead LEARNING (by trial & error) to Speaking Life into them & to stay as positive as I can. And to truly love others, whatever that may look like through (encouragement, prayer, time, text, phone call, etc). In a culture where caring/ being too nice can be viewed as a negative (what’s that person’s true intentions), I want to choose to believe otherwise!!! By no means has it been easy or have I been successful the whole time with either (I am human), but I will tell you this it has given me a new perspective on my actual issues as well as a deeper love for the people in my life.
All this to say be real with one another, but also Love others when they are being real with you (1 Peter 4:8-10). We are to carry one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2) and to be a source of encouragement (1 Thessalonians 5:11). You never really know what someone is going through, so take the time to care. You may just be that person angel or better yet they may be yours!!
